As more people use AI to write, their writings are getting more and more alike. To catch plagiarism, more AI tools are on the rise to check originality. As the sea of sameness – generated by AI – is swelling up, originality is at a premium.

The Dictionary definitions of the word “originality” are (emphasis added): 

1: the quality or state of being original

2: freshness of aspect, design, or style,

3: the power of independent thought or constructive imagination.  

Synonyms of the word originality are: freshness, newness, and novelty.

Two more definitions used by kids and in law:

Kids Definition: 1: the quality or state of being original: freshness, as in “the originality of an idea”, and 2: the power or ability to think, act, or do something in new ways : creativity, as in “an artist of great originality”.

Legal Definition:  the quality or fact of being the product of individual creation that warrants copyright protection for a particular work regardless of novelty.

AI is said to hit a point of diminishing return, per a Bloomberg Dec. 19, 2024 prediction. Whether it is true or not, the good news is that as AI automates brainless tasks, humans can become more original, creative, authentic, and unique.

The AI Age is actually the golden age of brand-building.

I, for one, am elated since that’s exactly what I have been doing: helping individual leaders and companies to become their own original, authentic, unique, and POWERFUL brands.

I advise that you pay no attention to the herd followers. Cultivate critical thinking, design thinking, and originality.  The process itself is rewarding, and the outcome is powerful.
